Episode 27 of The Motor Dream Podcast continues its tradition of exploring the unexpected automotive passions of prominent Australian athletes, welcoming a new sporting luminary to the show: Emma Nedov.
Widely celebrated as Australia’s ‘Beam Queen’ in the world of women’s artistic gymnastics, Emma was a key member of the Australian team that achieved a commendable top-ten finish at the 2024 Paris Olympics, marking the nation's return to the Games since 2012. This accomplishment capped a remarkable comeback for Nedov, who had returned to the sport after a brief retirement, adding to her already impressive resume as a multiple national champion and World Cup gold medallist on the balance beam.
Beyond the chalk and balance beam, Emma Nedov harbours a deep-seated passion for motorcycling, a love ignited in her childhood. While an underlying interest persisted throughout her gymnastics career, it was during her initial retirement in 2020 that she fully embraced motorcycle riding. Now residing in Victoria with her partner Julian, also an avid rider, Emma enjoys open road adventures and has enthusiastically taken to track days at iconic Australian circuits. Her involvement even extends to occasional stunt work, promising an entertaining anecdote for listeners.
Remarkably, Emma now combines her sporting expertise with her motorcycle enthusiasm, working as a qualified sports nutritionist and mentor for rising Australian motorcycle racers, including Australia's representative in the FIM Women’s Road Racing World Championship in Tayla Relph.
